A purchase you won't regret. Excellent starting point (with discounted price) for a unique electroacoustic Setar. It is extremely light and delicate (a hard case is strongly advised). Mine came with a little scratch on the back of the resonator, maybe that's why the cost dropped? Anyway the resonator does an excellent job. My experience is limited to only few years of listening to recorded performances and I'm self-taught, so take my review with a grain of salt. I expected a bit more sustain and a different tone when it comes to fretting the thinnest strings but if you use a pick (for Setar) then things improve dramatically. Still it shines depending on the point you pluck, which is what is most beautiful about this instrument. The "middle" string sounds very distinctive and if, for some reason, you are fanatic about the tone, well, there is a very practical equalizer on board! Now, it could have been equipped with a knob for mid frequencies as well. However, all buttons can be pushed inside, so you won't rub your forearm. Mind the battery adds weight and the instrument will easily fall towards its side, so be careful when you place at rest. To my surprise, the frets are fit in a very strange fashion. I'm acquainted with non-western tuning systems and I like the scale (for the moment I've decided not to move the frets). The fret for the "perfect octave" is half a comma off, and so is that for the "perfect fourth". It has pros and cons. This usually means you are forced to de-tune the open strings in order to get to a degree of actual unison-width and an agreeable amount of beatings, when playing a "perfect fourth" on the "middle" string to match a consonant octave, for example. I tried to move the bridge (it detached quite effortlessly) to get something done but seems hinged on the electroacustic apparatus. Eventually, I put it back where it was. Tuning mechanics are both super sensitive and reliable. I'm new to this instrument, now I play it everyday. Love it!
